Hospital Shop
Covid update
We never closed !
The Friends’ Hospital Shop has remained open throughout the pandemic, with the necessary safeguards in place.
The Friends’ Hospital Shop first opened in 1974.
It has become the main source of the Friends’ income for donations to the Hospital. Profits are used to fund a wide range of Projects and Resources in annual bids received from Departments across the Hospital.

The original premises consisted of a prefabricated building located in a courtyard between the main wards and the operating theatres. Later, when work began on building the first phase of the new Hospital, the Shop was moved into two portacabins close to the bus-stance and this had the effect of increasing income, with Staff and members of the public passing the door on their way to work or Hospital services.
Located on level 1 near main reception, the Hospital Shop provides a valuable service to the staff and patients.
Once the second phase of the new Hospital was finished, the Shop was moved into the main building on Level 0 opposite the present blood test unit. Again, income increased as staff and patients could ‘nip down’ during the day.
Two years later it was decided to move the present prime position in the Main Reception on Level 1. Once again profits rose.
As well as generating essential income, the Shop is a valuable resource in its own right. Hospital Staff, Patients and Visitors can find newspapers, magazines, toiletries, small gifts, sandwiches, salads and ‘treats’ such as ice creams, chocolate bars and drinks as well as Oyster Card and Mobile Phone Top-Ups. And more!
We are always looking for help in providing this vital service in the Shop; if you can spare a few hours on a regular basis, to serve customers or fill shelves, then please get in touch with the Manager at the Shop or by phoning 020 8216 5044. No retail experience is necessary.
